Buenafication Day is an annual day of service for students of Buena Vista University. One of the most important aspects of taking care of Storm Lake is its green community and deep blue lake. Following the 2020 Buenafication Day’s work from home due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there was a new separation from the Storm Lake area. When it was announced the event would go on this year, it was exciting to know there would be care for both the lake and land.

The 2021 edition had no shortage of environmental care for the two. BVU students actively worked in Storm Lake’s King’s Pointe area. Beavers could be found cleaning and restoring it and the neighboring location. At the shore of the lake nearby King’s Pointe, members of the BVU Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) assembled with plastic bags and rakes to partake in a beach cleanup. Down the street at John M Capps State Park, the BVU girl’s softball team arrived with a trailer, pulled by truck, full of supplies for mulching the trees at the park. It was a day of hard work for Beavers, and a reminder that the students are selfless even amidst a global pandemic.
